The winter that seemed like it would never end has finally started to fade. Saturday was a beautiful day and we took advantage of it. We were working hard in the yard. Lisa raking and I was working on the vegetable garden. Zoe and Ernie were doing their usual circuit around the yard, exploring all the nooks and crannies. After about three hours Ernie went in and we continued to work. Having not seen Zoe for about 10 minutes we started calling. Nothing! We looked out back, in the front, and in the adjacent neighbors yards. Nothing. After about a half hour of searching our amazing neighbors started coming over and asking if they could help. Jill searched out back up toward Copp. Mark and Liz searched out back towards the Fremont Forest and Deb and Louise got into their car and started heading towards Grist Mill. In seven years of living here Zoe has never wandered beyond our yard and we were definitely fearing the worst. This spring we have had bear, fox, fisher cats(very elusive), owls and hawks. At this point Lisa and I split up. She heads out into the Loop Trails and I bushwack out back to circle around. After about a half hour more..........nothing. You can hear people all over the neighborhood calling, "Zoe!!". I head back to the street to head down to the trail head and three hikers come out of the woods and who's with them, spinning and jumping? Zoe the official Fremont Forest trail guide. She hears me yell and does an all out sprint 400 yards to my feet where she rolls over and knows she's "done for". One of the trails is about 200 yards behind our house and the hikers said she popped out of the woods, and led them around in a perfect loop, never more than 10 feet in front of them for over an hour. A perfect guide!
Lisa is recovering!
