Back in Fremont

Hey all! Thanks for all the great emails and comments about the trip blog. Lisa and I had a great time. We met so many wonderful people and have just fallen in love with Great Guana Cay. We're back and getting the yard and deck ready for our summer season. Lots to do today so we're kicking it off with a great Sunday breakfast. Fresh Artichoke and Steak Hash with Poached Eggs. Wow!
Hope to talk to you all soon!

Tuesday from Guana

A real lesson today in the dynamics of Island weather. With the winds shifting and blowing in from the North the roiling chop switched form the Sea of Abaco out to the ocean side. With that change we left the beautiful barrier reef and came over to the bay and did some fish photo's today. Saw a lot of cool stuff and it really turned into a study of Atlantic Anenomes. Got some great photos of some healthy Purple Tips.Lisa saw a nice three foot Nurse Shark, but there is no photographic evidence, hmph! She did however get a nice shot of a huge Ray.
We did two seperate dives for a total of about four hours. Really calm and relaxing. In between we shot up to Nippers to see how the new project is rolling. Johnnie and the boys are working on adding a slatted roof seating area with wicker furniture. It looks like it's going to be a nice addition.
This evening we had three of our favorite islanders over for dinner. Becky and Jenks, Dolphin Beach and Property Manager, and Jamie, Guana Lumber. What a great time. We learned more about the island and the Bahamas in general, and laughed at a lot of great stories. Dinner was a blast creating. I brought some stuff with and filled in around with ingredients I can find on island. Did a Milo Tomato Salad with Pistachio Oil, 12yr Balsamic, Peccorino Grand Cru and Pepper Slaw for the First Course. Followed that with Milo's Roasted Mahi on Creamy Polenta and an Island Tomato and Onion Confit. Entree was a Niman Prime Strip Steak with Mashed Yams and Nueske Bacon Sauteed Green Beans....all finished with a Roasted Garlic Butter. Dessert was Grilled Pineapple with Coconut Ice Cream topped with Cinnamon Sauted Bananas and chopped peanuts.
To return the favor Jamie's taking us out fishing tomorrow evening. I do believe I will have some work ahead of me if we are lucky enough to land anything. So pray for calm seas and hungry fish!

I wish the whole world felt as good as we do right now!!!!

Webcam Monday!

Fun day today! Woke up to the roiling Bay of Abaco. Wow was the wind whipping from the east. Good news is that the ocean side was again real calm. Started with some coffee and Coconut Bread toast. Packed up and headed out to our beach head at Nippers. Hiked the twenty minutes down to high rocks. We were in the water for about two hours and had a great time. Real nice tight shot of a Blue Tang. Lots of nice coral shots but my connections a little slow tonight so I'm going to limit my uploads. We then walked back to Nippers, and it seemed a lot longer than the hike out. Settled in for our Webcam shot with a couple of Kaliks. Thanks to my Cuz Nikki for capturing the shot.
After waving at the camera for ten minutes, not the nice couple sitting next to it, we were back up the stairs to order some lunch. Fried Mahi Plate and Conchy Joe. Good vittles. Finally got to meet Tina(DaGoose) and share a couple of drinks with them, PattiPuzo and Culp. So nice getting to meet all these people from different walks of life that have the same passion for Guana.

Lisa and I popped in for another uneventful swim in front of Nippers. Headed back to Key Lime after a cart ride down to the start of Bakers Bay. Had some outrageous soft tacos with yesterdays left over pork, some of Milo's tomatoes, fresh cilantro, an avocado and a squeeze of fresh lime. Amazing how good simple Island Food can be!

Final thought of the day........What the fish of Guana get to see all week!

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Evening

Two part day. After breakfast we hiked up over the dune across the street to the ocean side and again had the beach almost to ourselves. Took a picture from the top of the dune and then one above water from the reef. Neat to see the spot from both directions. Hell of a workout swimming back and forth and legs are really feeling it tonight.

It was a long swim out to the reef but well worth it. No out of the ordinary sightings, but great coral development and really dense fish population. Got a great shot of a parrot fish. Almost like he posed.
Hit Nippers for the pig roast and caught up with a bunch of friends we made in November. Too much of a crowd so we didn't stay too long, and we swung by and had a quick drink at Orchid Bay. Back to Key Lime for a quick nap and then a nice dinner of Blackened Niman Pork Chops with Island Tomato Confit and Jasmine Rice. Popped into the Settlement for scoop of Ice Cream and now back at Key Lime battening down the hatchs for the incoming storm.

Great Guana Breakfast

1. Coffee (Splash of Anejo)
2. Tea
3. Thick cut Nueske Bacon
4. Slow cooked Yellow Grits with Sharp Cheddah!
5. Lots of Crystal

Off to Snorkel, and then to Nippers for the Pig Roast!!!!!

We made it!

In the immortal words of Jerry Garcia and the boys, "What a Long Strange Trip Its Been", but we made it! Twenty four hours of travel and after just six hours I can tell you it was absolutely worth it. Amazing how different things can seem after some Conch Fritters, some Blackened Grouper, a two hour swim and a few(too many) Kaliks.
We left Fremont at about noon yesterday and after a small oversight we missed our flight. Delta and Continental were amazing and got us all rebooked on the next flight. Delayed two hours and next thing we know we're arriving in Ft Lauderdale at 12am. After about four hours of sleep, back at the airport and into Marsh Harbor at 11am. Groceries, Bakery and Rum and then drinks at Curly Tails. Perfect ferry ride. Checked in at Key Lime and off to Snorkel. Great swim with nice coral and a huge school of Blue Tangs that just hung out with us. Checked in at Nippers, for drinks with Easy. Said hi to Johnnie. Shower up and off to Docksiders for dinner. During dinner we ran into Culp from Abaco Forum and shared a drink. After dinner we swung by Dive Guana and said hello to Maria and Troy who both looked great! Was lucky enough at the same time to meet PatW and PattiPuzo. Needless to say they didn't disappoint; as nice and friendly in person as online!

Will Blog here and there! Hope all are well!
